Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys Rare 1958 Radio Broadcast Part 85

EP-85 This is a rare undiscovered recording by Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys on March 1, 1958. It was recorded during a KVOO On-Air Radio Broadcast from the Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bob and the Boys are talking with the radio announcer and performing live on stage. The song they are performing in this video is “Yellow Dog Blues”.

Bob Wills and Johnnie Lee Wills combined their bands in January 1958. Sometimes Bob could not make it to the noonday broadcast, so Johnnie Lee would fill in for him – as is evident at the beginning of this broadcast on March 1, 1958. Bob Wills was late for the show.

This number doesn’t sound at all like the W.C. Handy composition, so I have to believe that they took another melody from another source and called it “Yellow Dog Blues.” It’s a toe-tapper nevertheless.

What you are about to hear is a rare recording of Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys performing “Yellow Dog Blues” live on stage during the KVOO On-Air Radio Broadcast at the Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 1, 1958.

I have digitally remastered the original recording for clarity and stereo effect.
